- External vehicle cleaning**
* In Switzerland, there are several different types of insurance, i.e. the rental company has taken out separate insurance cover to protect the renter for freak damage where the driver is not at fault, third party cover for people/property and cover for damage to the rental vehicle.
** The compulsory vehicle preparation fee includes the cost for cleaning the exterior of the vehicle and is included in our quotes/bookings. You are still required to return the motorhome with a clean interior, otherwise a fee of up to CHF150 will be charged.
The toilet and waste water tanks have to be completely emptied by the time you drop off the vehicle, otherwise CHF 217 will be charged and further fees apply to cover the costs of emptying the waste water tank.
The compulsory vehicle preparation fee is automatically factored into the total price during the online quote / booking process on our website.
The amount of this fee depends on the vehicle type requested and can be seen in the price box during the online quote / booking process.
This fee includes the following provisions:
- Standard equipment (for details on the contents refer to the section 'Equipment & Extras')
- 2 bottles of propane gas (1 full bottle and 1 used bottle)
- Initial provision of toilet chemicals
- External vehicle cleaning
- Fresh water tank purification
- Detailed 'show-through' of the vehicle at pick-up
The following long-hire discounts apply off the daily rental rates and will be automatically factored into the total price during the online quote / booking process on our website:
- 3% for 21 - 30 day hires
- 5% for hires of 31 days and more
Online check-in is mandatory with McRent until 14 days before pick-up or for last minute bookings immediately. Please complete the online check-in https://www.mcrent.eu/online-check-in/ . You will need the McRent booking reference found on your voucher and the vehicle pick-up date. If you don´t complete the online check-in punctual pick-up cannot be guaranteed.
When calculating the total price all rental days are added up according to the number of days that fall within each 'season'. The pick-up and drop-off days are counted as one day in total as long as the sum of these two days does not exceed 24 hours, i.e. the rates are counted on a nightly basis in the same way that hotels do this. Every night is charged according to the season that applies to that night.
The cancellation fees apply as stated in Motorhome Bookers' booking conditions.
If the vehicle is collected later than the pick-up day booked, or returned earlier than booked no refunds will be provided.
- Petrol or diesel, propane gas (except for the first fill), running costs (additional oil, water, etc)
- Additional 'optional extras' (see below)
- Parking costs if a private vehicle is parked at the rental company depot
The following extras - including baby/booster seats - need to be reserved in advance when you book your motorhome, pending availability.

**Bike racks are free but can only be guaranteed if requested at the time of booking. Bike racks are not suitable for E-Bikes.
These items can also be rented and paid for when you pick up the vehicle. However, there is no guarantee that they will be available at that late stage.
All rental rates include third party vehicle insurance with cover up to a maximum of CHF 50 million for damage to third party vehicles as well as separate vehicle insurance for damage caused by the renter to the rental vehicle. The excess that applies to any vehicle damage (damaged caused to the vehicle by the renter) is limited to CHF 1,500.
For any damage resulting from hail, break-ins, accidents with animals, windscreen damage, etc (i.e. 'external influence' or 'freak' damage excluding damage caused by other people to the rental vehicle) the excess is limited to CHF 500. Any damage to the tyres or the underbody of the vehicle is not insured and must be paid for by the renter.
Please note: you have to pay the extra charge for winter tyres if hiring between 01 Nov and 31 Mar. Having winter tyres on any vehicle during that time period is required by German law and there will be no insurance coverage otherwise.
The general regulations governing insurance in Germany apply as the foundation for this insurance policy. There are no additional insurance options available to reduce or waive the excess. The excess applies to each incident and will be charged separately if more than one incident occurs.
If an accident occurs with another vehicle or the driver of another vehicle flees the scene, the renter is liable up to the limit of the excess. The excess is deducted in the first instance - regardless of who is at fault.
The excess is deducted separately for each individual incident within the upper limit. It is reimbursed as soon as the rental company receives any damage payments from a third party, which can take some time.
You are required to provide a deposit of CHF 1,500 (to cover the excess) when you pick up the vehicle and this can only be done with a credit card. Accepted credit cards are Visa and Mastercard for all depots. Please note that pre-paid credit cards are NOT accepted. You will not be able to pick up your motorhome unless you present a valid credit card.
The deposit is deducted from the credit card at pick-up and if the vehicle is returned in good condition it will be credited back. All credit card deductions are processed in Euros. Neither the rental company nor the tour operator is liable to pay any cost differences that occur between the cost of the deducted bond and the reimbursement which result from foreign exchange fluctuations or external fees.
Please ensure you have adequate available credit on your credit card.
The deposit is reimbursed in entirety by McRent as long as the motorhome is returned with full fuel tanks, clean and undamaged. The rental company reserves the right to charge fees for any damage, necessary cleaning fees, a late drop-off and fines incurred during the rental period, etc. These fees are deducted from the credit card in arrears.
All insurance cover is null and void if the terms of the McRent Germany rental agreement are breached. Any damage that is caused when the renter acts outside of the rental company conditions is not covered by the insurance.
Any water and/or saltwater related damage where the renter is at fault is not covered by the insurance. The insurance does not cover damage in the case of any vehicle submersion, the vehicle being stranded in a water area, driving through causeways or beach driving.
Any personal property that is damaged or stolen during an accident, vandalism or a theft is not insured. Private insurance should be purchased in your home country to cover any such issues. In order to avoid theft of personal items from the vehicle it is advised not to leave any valuable items in the vehicle.
In the following cases the renter is liable for the full amount of damage caused either to the rented vehicle or to the property of a third party involved:
- any vehicle submersion or the vehicle being stranded in a water area
- damage resulting from creek or river crossings, driving through causeways or beach driving
- activities that are in breach of the rental agreement conditions, e.g. driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or dangerous driving
- damage caused by the use of the wrong fuel or when water or oil, etc are not topped up to minimum required levels (causing overheating, frost damage, etc) or where warning signals in the vehicle are ignored
- costs that arise for towing and recovery of vehicles that have been stranded or submerged as a result of the driver's negligence
- vehicle theft due to the driver's or passengers' negligence
- repairs and towing costs that are incurred because of driving on restricted roads or in forbidden areas
- tyre damage that is not a result of faults in the welding
- damage to the interior of the vehicle
- costs for vehicle keys that have either been lost or locked in the vehicle
- if the driver leaves an accident scene or does not report an accident or damage to the police
- damage caused because the driver disregarded height / weight restrictions or the size of the vehicle
- damage due to overloading of the vehicle
- personal property that is damaged in an accident or is either stolen or damaged during theft is not insured
- damage is caused as a result of other people using the vehicle without the permission of the rental company
The renter is liable for any fees, costs, fines or penalties that occur during his/her use of the rental vehicle unless any such costs that have taken place are the fault of the rental company.
If speeding tickets and parking fines and/or accidents, etc (e.g. that have not been mentioned to the rental company) come to light the rental company reserves the right to invoice the customer for these costs in arrears as well as a processing fee or charge their credit card.
The insurance options offered by the rental company do not include luggage insurance, nor do they include cover for any damage to passengers. It is therefore recommended to obtain travel insurance that covers accidents, sickness and loss of luggage prior to departure.
All drivers must have held their driver licence for a minimum of 1 year at the time they pick up the motorhome. Drivers from outside the EU who have NO European Driver Licence (such as Australian, New Zealand, American and Canadian licence holders etc.) MUST present an international driving licence at pick-up along with their original national driver licence. Drivers from the EU with a European Driver Licence will only need to present their original national driver licence. Important note for UK licence holders:
From 08 Jun 15, the paper counterpart to the photocard UK driving licence will not be valid and no longer be issued by DVLA. Due to insurance reasons, the rental company requires the information formerly listed on the paper counterpart. You can check your details online www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence no more than 3 days before collection, print a copy of your counterpart and bring it with you when you pick up your vehicle.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Due to insurance regulations, drivers who present a Korean driving licence only are not allowed to hire a McRent vehicle in Switzerland. An international driving licence in combination with the Korean licence will not be accepted either.
UK/EU Category B licences as well as most standard licences of most countries are valid for driving the following vehicles only (vehicle weight below 3,500 kg / 3.5 t incl. contents and passengers):
- Urban: Standard, Plus, Luxury models
- Compact: Plus, Luxury models
- Family: Standard, Plus, Luxury models

If in doubt, if you have a non-UK/EU licence or you have an EU category B licence and are unsure about anything regarding total weights please just give us a call or send us an email to check which specifications are present in the vehicle you wish to book.
The minimum age for all registered drivers is 21 years.
There are no additional costs for registering additional drivers.
Anyone wishing to drive the motorhome must have their details entered in the rental agreement.
The renter is required to provide the names and addresses of any drivers (even if they only drive the vehicle briefly) to the rental company. The renter is responsible and liable for the actions of any of the other registered drivers.
Before you can receive your vehicle you are required to present a valid driver licence, credit card (compulsory), your passport as well as the Motorhome Bookers voucher at the depot.
Please note carefully the maximum number of passengers allowed per vehicle as per the details provided when you click on the picture of your vehicle or view the vehicle specifications on the Vehicle Comparison page in the McRent Switzerland section on our website.
