If you plan to drive to certain areas in Canada, you will be required to pay the Northern Surcharge (for details please refer to the section entitled 'Driving Restrictions'). The surcharge is CA$ 300 + taxes and is payable locally.
NOTE: If you wish to drive to these areas you need to include this request when you make your booking. It is only possible with V19 and RS22 vehicles because they do not have a slide-out. This fee cannot be reimbursed if you end up not driving to/on these 'northern' routes.
The standard rental rates do not include a kilometre allowance. However, you can purchase kilometres packages through us in advance by adding these during the online booking process. Available are the following options:

Motorhome Bookers does not accept responsibility if any changes are made to the tax/fee levels either by local government authorities or due to adjustments made by Owasco.
Public Liability insurance
Public liability insurance with maximum coverage of CA$ 5 million is included in the daily rental rate. This covers claims made against the rental company, the renter and registered drivers with respect to damages to third parties and/or their property. Any claims brought by passengers against the driver are also insured.
Vehicle insurance
CDR Insurance is included in the standard rental rates. This limits the renter's personal level of risk/excess to CA$ 2,000 (up to CA$ 3,500 with A-Class) per incident if an accident happens or in the event of theft or vandalism, regardless of how or by whom any damage is caused.
Insurance Included | CDR |

Deposit required | CA$ 500 |
Cleaning deposit required | CA$ 150 |
EXCESS in the case of: | |
Fire & Theft | CA$ 2,000 |
Windshield & Glass Damage | CA$ 2,000 (CA$ 3,500 for A30-32S models) |

Hail & Storm | CA$ 2,000 |
Vehicle Accident in Parking Lot, Campground or Service Station | CA$ 2,000 |
While parking or backing up | CA$ 2,000 |
Collision with any Stationary Object | CA$ 2,000 |
In the event of an accident, insurance coverage is voided by not reporting damage to Owasco and the police within 24 hours of an incident taking place.
Please note that an administrative fee of CA$ 100 will be applied for every incident/occurrence.
There is no protection or insurance cover for any damage that is caused by driving the rental vehicle negligently or dangerously or not in line with the regulations of the rental agreement. See 'Insurance Exclusions' below for further details.
You are required to provide a deposit of CA$ 500 and, in addition, a cleaning deposit of CA$ 150. Owasco will deduct the two deposits from your credit card when you pick up the vehicle. It is necessary to have a valid credit card for this reason.
The deposits will be deducted from your credit card at time of pick-up. As long as the rental vehicle is returned on time, un-damaged, clean on the inside and outside, with all equipment as provided at pick-up time, empty waste water tanks and a full tank of fuel, the deposits will be returned in their entirety. Neither Owasco nor Motorhome Bookers are responsible for any money lost due to currency fluctuations.
Please ensure you have sufficient credit available on your credit card.
The insurance deposit of CA$ 500 applies on a per incident basis to cover the excess. In the event that damage to the rental vehicle or third-party property is incurred, and a second vehicle is released, a further deposit will be required to cover the excess for future damage.
The excess - in the form of the deposit - is always banked in the first instance, regardless of who is at fault and is owed to the rental company by the renter. The excess is refunded as soon as the rental company receives payment from a third party (which can take quite a while in some cases) and a separate excess is deducted every time an accident occurs.
All insurance cover is null and void if the terms of the Owasco Rental Agreement are breached. Any damage that is caused when the renter acts outside of the rental company conditions is not covered by insurance.
Any water or saltwater related damage where the renter is at fault is not covered by the insurance. The insurance does not cover damage in the case of vehicle submersion, the vehicle being stranded in a water area, driving on causeways or beach driving.
Any personal property that is damaged or stolen during an accident, vandalism or theft is not insured. Private insurance should be purchased in your home country to cover you for these events. In order to avoid theft of personal items from the vehicle, we advise you to not to leave any valuables in the vehicle.
In the cases listed below, the renter is fully liable for damage to the rental vehicle and third-party property, i.e. no insurance cover is provided:
-Failure to maintain all fluid levels
-Failure to use specified fuel or use of contaminated fuel; or fuel in water system
-Damage to the Air Conditioning, Slide-Out
-Damage to the overhead or underbody of the vehicle
-Operation by anyone under 21 years of age, not licensed or not listed on the rental agreement
-Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
-Deliberate or wilful damage by renter or guests
-Damage to the interior of the Motorhome
-Travel in restricted areas
-Towing of any kind
-Freezing of the vehicle's systems
-More passengers than the available seat belts
-Damage occurring in an accident that the renter has failed to report to Owasco, Insurance Company or police within 24 hours
-Self-Caused Accidents: Owasco reserves the right to deny replacing the vehicle depending on cause of accident
-Motor home theft in Montreal and Ottawa (except in specified campgrounds)
-Damages to awnings, if unit is equipped with an awning and damages occur, even if not in use, damages are not covered by insurance and customer will be responsible
-Flat Tires
-Failure to use tow-haul when driving on steep hills
The renter is liable for any fees, costs, fines or penalties that occur during his/her use of the rental vehicle unless any such costs that have taken place are the fault of the rental company.
If speeding tickets and parking fines that have not been mentioned to the rental company come to light, the rental company reserves the right to invoice the customer for these costs in arrears as well as a processing fee or charge their credit card.
The insurance options offered by the rental company do not include luggage insurance, nor do they include cover for any property of the driver or passengers. It is therefore recommended that you obtain travel insurance that covers accidents, sickness and loss of luggage prior to departure.
A valid standard UK, European, Australian or New Zealand licence is valid for use in Canada as long as the details are also provided in English. If the licence does not list information in English, an international driving licence is then recommended in addition to the original.
The minimum age for registered drivers is 21 years and the maximum age is 76.
You can list up to two drivers in the rental agreement free of charge. Any additional drivers can be registered for a charge of CA$ 10 per day and driver (max. CA$ 300 per additional driver). Anyone wishing to drive the motorhome must have their details entered in the rental agreement at pick-up time.
Before you can collect your vehicle you are required to present a valid driving license, credit card, your passport as well as the Motorhome Bookers voucher at the depot.
Minimum Hire period is:
- 7 days
- 14 days if you book the All Inclusive Option
Please note carefully the maximum number of passengers allowed per vehicle as per the details provided when you click on the 'Vehicle Overview' pages in the Owasco section of our website.
The vehicle preparation fee is already included in the base rental rates as well as in the All Inclusive Option. This covers your initial provision of propane gas (these gas bottles do not have to be returned full), toilet paper and toilet chemicals.
Each rental vehicle is equipped with the following standard vehicle equipment:
Spare tyre, fresh water hose with pressure gauge, waste water hose, instruction manual, shovel, levelling blocks
The convenience kits at CA$ 95 per person (max. CA$ 380 per vehicle) are not included in the base rental rates but only in the All Inclusive Option. They consist of the following items on top of the standard vehicle equipment:
Per person: 1 duvet (nordic), 1 duvet cover, 2 sheets per bed, 1 pillow and cover, 1 hand towel, 1 bath towel, 1 face cloth, 1 large plate, 1 small plate, 1 cereal & fruit bowl, 1 cup, 1 glass, 1 egg cup with spoon, 1 knife, 1 fork, 1 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, 1 steak knife.
Per vehicle: set of pots and pans, frying pan, set of bowls, meat platter, can opener, cork screw, whisk, spatula, 2 carving knives, peeler, serving spoon, cooking spoon, cutlery tray, cutting board, kettle, coffee maker, 2 tea towels, 1 pair rubber gloves, sieve or strainer, broom and dustpan, flashlight/tool set, fire extinguisher, pair of scissors, waste basket, axe, cleaning cloth, first aid kit, pot holder set, set of salt & pepper shakers, 2 rolls of RV toilet paper, 1 bag of toilet chemical toss in's, spare fuse.
In Canada, wearing a seatbelt is mandatory.
Children under 1 year of age or weighing less than 9 kg are required to be seated in a rear-facing baby seat that is securely fastened. Children from the age of 1 and weighing less than 18 kg must use a baby or booster seat attached with a seatbelt. No child seat is required if the child is at least 9 years old or 145 cm tall. For more detailed information on the requirements of each province / territory, please refer to Safe Kids Canada.
Please note:
Rear-facing baby seats are not permitted in any seats of the RV as they cannot be secured to a tether. Therefore no children under the age of 1 and 9 kg are permitted to travel in a Owasco Motorhome. Please book a different rental company if you are travelling with children under the age of 1.
For children over 1 year and 9 kg, child seats can only be installed (by the renter) in the forward-facing bench of the dinette (maximum 2 per vehicle), and they must be attached to a pre-installed tether or anchor. In most cases the dinette table will have to be lowered to accommodate the child seat, as it would be when setting it up as a bed. This means no other passengers can sit on the dinette benches during the trip.
All Owasco vehicles can accomodate child seats. Please advise at time of booking the ages and weight of your children and how many of them are in child seats. This is necessary so Owasco can ensure that a vehicle with a tether is booked.
Owasco does NOT rent out baby/booster seats. Please remember to bring your own seat if required or purchase it in Canada.

Child's high chair and baby bed are free of charge (pending availability at the time of pick-up).
Please note that local taxes are charged for each of these items paid for locally.
With the exception of Highway 20 (Bella Coola), you are not allowed to drive the rental vehicles on gravel roads, forest tracks or on non-public roads.
The following routes/areas are forbidden: Dempster Highway, Northwest Territories, Inuvik, Nunavut, Alaska Highway (North of Fort St. John).
You are permitted to drive to the USA, but not through Death Valley, California and Black Rock Desert (Burning Man). Travel to Mexico is prohibited.
You are not allowed to park the vehicle in the cities of Montreal and Ottawa.
Any such breaches of the rental agreement will incur a fine of up to CA$ 500, will result in the insurance being null and void and no reimbursements for repairs, break-downs or other losses, hotel costs, rental car costs, etc will be provided.
The Northern Surcharge of CA$ 300 must be paid if you plan on driving to the following areas: Alaska, Yukon, Alaska Highway and Cassiar Highway.
NOTE: If you wish to drive to these areas you will have to request this in advance when you make your booking. Travel to Northern areas is only possible with V19 and RS22 vehicles. The Northern Surcharge will not be reimbursed after drop-off if it turns out that you have not driven to these 'Northern' areas.
Please note that the renter is liable for any damage to the vehicle resulting from frost, exposure to the cold, freezing of the tanks, warm water container and connections and damage such as this is not covered by the insurance.
If it is likely that you will experience temperature levels below zero, all connections, such as water and chemical tanks should be emptied. If frost temperatures are expected the rental depot the rental depot will have already winterised the vehicle by emptying the water to avoid freezing, etc. prior to your departure.
Winterised, by definition, means that the water has to be emptied out of all water tanks. Once this is done it is not permitted to pour any more water into the fresh water tank and none of the water connections can be used any more. NO water in the vehicle is then available for use.
The renter is then required to purchase his/her own bottled water (e.g. drinking water) and to cover these costs him/herself.
The basins, sink, showers and toilets can then no longer be used. However, the toilet can be partially flushed as long as only the windscreen wiper anti-frost fluid is used. If there is a heavy frost even the toilet should not be used and you will need to use public toilets.
The renter is solely responsible for winterising the vehicle during his/her hire and for returning the vehicle in such a state if the vehicle was collected in a warmer region such that it had not already been prepared for winter conditions or if this state was altered during the rental period. If the renter does not adhere to these guidelines - regardless of what weather conditions are present at drop-off time, a fee will be charged.
Please allow for the fact - when planning out your route, that campgrounds in certain areas may close during the winter. Some roads, especially in Alpine areas may also be closed for driving or simply too dangerous to drive on.

The rental company will make every effort to ensure that the booked vehicle model is provided. However, it reserves the right, if due to unforeseen circumstances it has to provide either a vehicle of the same or a higher value without upgrade costs if the model booked is not available for any reason. Any additional costs such as higher petrol costs or ferry crossings costs, etc will not be reimbursed. This does not enable the renter to cancel his/her booking and there is no ground for compensation.
Even though Owasco vehicles have similar equipment and designs small differences in vehicle design may exist. All measurements and size indications are approximate values and are based on the information provided to us by the rental company. We do not accept responsibility for any mistakes or human error in the provision of these details and this information on our website can be changed at any time without prior notifice.

Even in the case of minor damage the renter is required to provide a detailed written report to the rental company outlining the situation. There is no insurance cover without a police report.
NOTE: If you do not inform the rental company immediately about any trouble you are having or the need for a repair and if the company is not given the opportunity to help you find you a solution no compensation will be provided. No insurance cover is provided if you forget to inform them of any incident.
If the vehicle is out of action due to a mechanical breakdown*, not an accident, for longer than 12 hours, Owasco is not required to reimburse the basic daily rental rate (or a percentage of this where applicable). No payments to cover accommodation and transport costs are provided. There is also no cover within the CDR insurance for breakdowns or other costs incurred as a result of an accident in the northern areas of Canada/Alaska.

Smoking is also not permitted in the vehicles. The rental companies will charge a fine of CA$ 500 at drop-off time if this is not adhered to.
If you plan to take your motorhome on a ferry we strongly suggest that you book this well in advance. We recommend you book a space on the ferry for a vehicle of at least 2ft longer in size as the booked vehicle, just in case you are upgraded at the depot to a larger vehicle. For information on the ferry please visit BC FERRIES, where you can also make a direct booking.
Please do not book ferry crossings for the days on which you pick-up or drop-off your motorhome. The pick-up of the motorhome may take longer than anticipated and may lead you to miss the ferry you have reserved. Also, due to delays with ferry crossings, there is a chance that you may have to return your motorhome late and be charged a fee. It is best to book a campground near the depot for the night before your drop off in order to avoid delays.
All information provided has been put together by us (Motorhome Bookers Ltd) in as much detail as possible and on the basis of the information made available to us. This information has been taken from the rental company's conditions which they have provided to us. Any additional conditions are included in the rental agreement which is entered into by yourself and the rental company. You will receive the complete list of rental conditions with your rental agreement, which you sign when you collect your vehicle. We do not accept responsibility for any differences that come to light between our list of conditions and those of the rental company.
